Visit Malaysia 2026 is entering its final stretch, and the country’s live-events engine has never run hotter. But the most interesting growth story isn’t in KL — it’s in Borneo.
If you’ve tried to book a hotel in Kuching on a festival weekend lately, you already know: Sarawak has become one of Malaysia’s fastest-growing live-entertainment markets. Here’s what’s happening across the country right now, why Sarawak and Miri are leading the charge — and what it means if you’re a brand, developer, mall, or organisation planning your next event.
The newsMalaysia’s live-events calendar is fuller than ever
Tourism Minister Tiong King Sing has said Malaysia’s stronger-than-expected 2025 — 42 million visitors — may push the 43 million Visit Malaysia 2026 target higher, with more than 300 cultural, arts and festival events built into the campaign. Here’s what’s on the immediate radar:
- 30 Oct –
1 NovPETRONAS Grand Prix of Malaysia (MotoGP) roars into Sepang International Circuit this weekend (SAYS). - 19–20
NovMy Chemical Romance plays Bukit Jalil National Stadium — both dates sold out after being moved from earlier in the year (Malay Mail). - DecYear-end festive season — Christmas, countdowns, corporate dinners and grand openings all compete for the same weekends, venues and crews.
- 20 Mar
2027Borderland Music Festival is listed to return to Kuching on 20 March 2027 (festival listing).
Malaysia’s festival boom is moving east
Sarawak already had heritage icons like the Rainforest World Music Festival, which returned to Sarawak Cultural Village on 26–28 June 2026 with 200+ performers from 12 countries (TTG Asia). What’s new is the speed at which contemporary youth festivals are scaling — and Borderland is the clearest proof.

For 2025, organisers lined up 60+ international and local artists from 15 countries, with the state’s Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts as main sponsor (Sarawak Premier’s Department). The 2026 edition followed on 11–12 September at Sarawak Cultural Village with 40+ artists including KSHMR, Ben Nicky and Blasterjaxx — and, for the first time, traditional cultural workshops inspired by the Rainforest World Music Festival (SAYS).
The pattern is unmistakable: Sarawak is building a festival economy — hotels, F&B, transport, crews, vendors and sponsors all ride the same wave. And it didn’t start in Kuching.
Where it startedBefore Borderland, Miri lit up in neon
Long before the big-stage headlines, the team behind iPrima Entertainment was testing a simple idea in Miri: give Northern Sarawak a night out worth travelling for.
Miri’s first neon night run
An 8km charity night run at Marina Bay, Miri — glow gear, music and 1,000+ runners lighting up the waterfront (Miri City Sharing). It came back by popular demand for its third run.
The night run becomes a festival
The neon format moves from the road to the stage — the concept that would become Neon Borneo.
Miri’s first neon music festival
Three days at Coco Cabana, Miri, headlined by Belarus-born DJ Lia Lisse (Kuching Borneo), launched with Sarawak Government support and welcoming 3,000+ “Neonsters”. The mission: make Miri a place to Live, Play & Work (Neon Borneo).
3,000 festival-goers, then Kuching, then 20,000
Borderland’s first edition landed in the same city Neon Borneo had already primed — before scaling to Sarawak Cultural Village.
Dinner concerts, markets & the “extra” audience
EDM crowds are only one audience. Some of iPrima Entertainment’s fastest sell-outs came from formats most organisers overlook:

Golden-oldies dinner concerts like Beyond 金曲盛宴, 聚驹 3.0 and our Mother’s Day 母亲节金典盛宴 reach families and the Chinese-speaking community — a high-spending, high-loyalty crowd that a festival poster never touches. Bai Lan, our community market format, does the same for the weekend-lifestyle crowd: vendors, food, music and pop-up culture on one ground.
Planning an event in Sarawak or Miri?
The boom has a catch: more events means more competition for venues, crews, permits, sponsors and attention. Most event headaches come from juggling five suppliers who don’t talk to each other. iPrima Entertainment runs the whole show as one team:
Event Management
Concept, run-sheet, venue and vendor coordination, talent booking, crowd flow and on-the-day show control.
Event Setup
Stage, sound, lighting, LED, neon décor, booths and photo moments — built to look good in person and on camera.
Event Marketing
Launch campaigns, ticketing partners, social and creator promotion, plus aftermovies and highlight reels that keep selling after the lights go off.
| Five separate suppliers | iPrima Entertainment | |
|---|---|---|
| Who’s accountable | Everyone and no one | One team, one run-sheet |
| Local knowledge | Often flown in | On the ground in Miri & Sarawak since the Neon Rush days |
| Promotion | Bolted on last minute | Built into the plan from day one |
| Content after the event | Phone clips | Produced by sister company iPrima Media |
| Audience reach | One crowd | Festival, family & community audiences |
One event. Many returns.
iPrima Entertainment is the sister company of iPrima Media under iPrima Group. That’s why our events don’t end when the crowd goes home — they feed the next one.
- Event — the crowd, the stage, the moment your brand lives inside.
- Content — iPrima Media turns one night into aftermovies, reels and ad creatives.
- Community — fans follow, join our Telegram channel and come back.
- Data & leads — QR, WhatsApp and ticketing capture who showed up.
- Sponsors — real numbers and real footage make the next deal easier to sign.
- Bigger event — and the wheel spins faster every edition. Neon Rush → Neon Borneo → Borderland is that loop in action.

Event management in Malaysia: quick answers
Does iPrima Entertainment run events in Sarawak and Miri?
Yes. Our roots are in Miri — Neon Rush and Neon Borneo Festival were built there — and we support events across Sarawak, including Kuching, alongside our Johor Bahru base and projects nationwide.
What does an event management company in Malaysia actually handle?
Typically concept and planning, venue and vendor coordination, permits paperwork support, talent booking, stage and technical setup, on-site crew, ticketing via partner platforms, marketing and post-event content. With iPrima Entertainment, it’s one team covering all of it.
Can you handle just the event setup?
Yes. If you already have a planner, we can supply the setup alone — stage, sound, lighting, LED, neon décor, booths and photo moments.
Do you only do music festivals?
No. We also run gala and dinner concerts, brand activations, product launches, grand openings, corporate events, charity and night runs, and community markets.
How do you promote an event?
With our sister company iPrima Media: launch campaigns, social content, creator and KOL promotion, ticketing partners, and aftermovies that keep working after the event.
How early should I book for a 2027 event?
The busier the calendar, the earlier the better — venues, crews and dates fill fast around major festivals and holiday weekends. WhatsApp us with your date and city and we’ll tell you what’s realistic.
